6 Great Ways to Decorate with Plants

October 9, 2020 by Shelby DeVore Leave a Comment

6 Ways to Decorate with Plants. Decorating with  Indoor Plants. Using Plants as Interior Home Decor.

Interior design helps us make our homes not only beautiful but also comfortable. Some of the things we use to decorate our dwellings include wood furniture, artworks, stone finishes, and rugs and pillows made of animal hides.

But of all the things we use to enhance the aesthetic look of our homes, plants are arguably the most beautiful and most valuable.

There are some serious health benefits to having plants in your home.

On top of their aesthetic value, introducing plants in your home gets rid of toxins in the air and enhances air quality. Certain plants even have a wide array of aromatherapy benefits, including energizing the mind, fostering deeper and restful sleep, and maintaining healthy blood pressure.

But what are the creative ways to decorate with plants? You may wonder! This guide will help answer that question.

1. Fill Empty Spaces with Floor Plants

Does your room feel incomplete because of a big empty or unused space?

If yes, then adding floor plants will make it complete while introducing a new touch of freshness to the interior décor. Due to their large and bold nature, floor plants can occupy more visual space and make your room livelier.

They come in a broad range of varieties, from citrus to bird of paradise to palms.

Given that your floor plants will require adequate light for healthy growth, ensure you place them in space where there is sufficient light.

Alternatively, you can install LED grow lights that will provide your plants with the kind of light they need to enhance healthy development.

On top of ensuring your floor plants are getting proper lighting, you should also ensure their size makes sense in your space.

Quite tall floor plants in a room where all the furniture and couches are low to the ground may seem like they are occupying a large space.

A 6’ to 7’ plant is a perfect fit for most residential spaces. But if your apartment is a bit smaller, consider keeping floor plants that are 2’ to 3’ tall.

Palm trees are a great option for floor plants.  Watch the video below for more information about the types of palm trees that grow well indoors:

2. Opt for Low-Maintenance Plants

Taking care of plants can be a tough task.

Depending on the kind of plant and the amount of time you’re willing to dedicate to the course, some plants can be much tougher to care for than others. So even if you don’t have a good track of record or are inexperienced when it comes to caring for plants, there are many low-maintenance plants that can reward your hard work with healthy and continuous growth.

For instance, a succulent or cactus plant requires little water and light, and can thrive in environments that’d be less suitable for other plant types. They also come in various shades of greens, purples, and yellows, which allow them to create a gorgeous visual effect in your room.

If most of the rooms in your home are chilly and don’t get enough sunlight, then the clivia plant will thrive in that environment.

These long-lasting plants require cooler conditions, which enable their beautiful blooms to emerge, usually in orange or occasionally a golden yellow. In addition to blooming even in a drafty space, these gorgeous plants will beautify a chilly space with their vibrant colors.

Another upside of the clivia is that it prefers to stay on the dry side, meaning you don’t have to water it daily.

3. Add Amazing Liveliness into Your Space with Cut Flowers

If you want to avoid the hassle that comes with having indoor houseplants, you can consider decorating your space with cut flowers.

Maintaining cut blooms is much easier and takes less time than houseplants. Although they don’t have the longevity of a living plant, cut blooms can introduce outstanding vibrancy into your home with little care.

Try out different colors and display styles based on your preference and the season.

On top of being less time consuming, cut flowers can also be the cheapest option, especially if you minimize how frequently you replace them by taking good care of them.  You can get a bunch of cut blooms for as little as $5.

But since they have a shorter lifespan compared to potted plants, the cost of continuously replacing the flowers as they dry up can pile up over time. That aside, replacing your flowers is undoubtedly the easiest and cheapest way to brighten up your room.

4. Start a Hanging Herb Garden in Your Kitchen

Using tiny platters you can keep a broad range of eye-catching, fresh herbs in the kitchen space.

Other than beautifying the space, the hanging herbs will add a new sense of freshness to your cooking. The upside of this hanging garden is that it’s easy to set up.

All you need is some tiny platters and a few wood screws to build a simple yet attractive herb garden. You can also have LED grow lights that complement your kitchen décor installed to ensure your herbs are getting enough light for their photosynthetic effect.

Are you looking for ways to brighten up a living space? Do you have some awkward unfilled spaces that you need to fill in your home? Plants are the perfect way to add some life and color to your home without causing it to look busy. learn which plants are the easiest to grow indoors in this guide.

Choose herbs to grow on your kitchen’s hanging herb garden carefully.

Let your choice be based on the beauty of the herb and your taste. There is no need to grow an herb that you don’t like.

Some of the herbs you should consider adding to your hanging garden include rosemary, chives, sage, and Italian oregano. If your kitchen is a bit small, opt for herbs that don’t consume too much space.

You can try Spicy Globe, Fernleaf dill, English mint, or Blue Boy rosemary.

5. Brighten Your Space with Blooming Plants

When looking for houseplants to incorporate into your decorating plan, it’s important to bear in mind that there are other color options other than green. Blooming plants feature all the health advantages of green plants while also offering you an additional pop of color, which can completely transform the look of your space.

Due to the bright, appealing colors, orchids are a perfect choice for many interior designs. They brighten and make your space attractive regardless of how you arrange them in a room.

Orchids are emblems of love. Their beauty adds sophistication to your space. They offer you endless possibilities for decorating your home.

For instance, orchids pair well with vases and can incorporate a splash of style to any space.

Since orchids are epiphytes, non-parasitic plants that grow on the surface of other plants, you can also incorporate them into your wall décor. Other than their unlimited decorative capabilities, orchids can last long with proper care.

6. Choose Non-toxic Options for Your Kid’s Room

Besides soft toys, adding some plants can take the aesthetic look of your kid’s room to a completely new level. Go for non-toxic options, especially those without spikes. If you have a toddler, place the cacti somewhere beyond their reach.

African Violet is another example of a non-toxic plant to keep in your home if you’ve kids and pets. It’s a popular choice for beginner gardeners. It’s tiny and requires less maintenance, making it a great option for busy families.

Parlour Palm is another kid- and pet-friendly plant you can use to decorate your space. This slow-growing plant thrives in low-light conditions and doesn’t require too much watering.

Final word

Making green plants part of your interior decoration scheme not only beautifies your home but also adds life to it. These six decoration ideas will help you in your journey of making your space comfortable and stunning using plants.
